• Delivering a net gain in biodiversity
• Creating new areas of species rich grassland
• Encouraging rewilding of land on the site
• Aligning with other local nature proposals
• Delivering new linear hedgerows
Please provide any further comments on our landscape proposals, including any other local proposals you would like to see our landscaping support.
The relocation project has areas allocated for tree planting/woodland. Please can you seriously consider allowing the areas of woodland to be created by the process of natural succession rather than by tree planting. Wild trees are very good at propagating themselves by seed, readily colonise open ground and assemble themselves into natural woodland, if allowed to do so. The seed source is from the local countryside, and so has is from the local genetic stock which also maintains genetic diversety and the woodland created will have an natural species composition and structure. Natural woodland regeneration is a form of re-wilding. There is a common misconception and that tree planting is a good idea when the reality is that it results in the creation of a plantation as opposed the natural woodland in which the species composition and structure is artificially forced. Also the seeds will be from a few limited trees and often not of native provenance resulting in more limited genetic diversity and loss of the local genetic diversity.

What would you like to see prioritised in selecting the architectural finishes for the externally facing buildings and features of the new facility? This includes the gateway building, and the anaerobic digesters as the tallest elements of the facility. Please click your preference
Other (please specify)
Please explain why you think this.
Whatever material is chosen it will be too big and alien to its site: it's HUGE
In addition to the gateway building and anaerobic digesters we are also exploring additional screening on top of the earthwork bank. Please click your preference.

it will be impossible to screen such a huge project, whatever measures are taken
Do you have any further comments for us to consider when developing our proposals to mitigate the potential visual impacts of the new plant?
no measures will mitigate the development sufficiently. Honey Hill is the wrong site

More natural, blended finish

The taller part of the structure that extends above the earthwork bank, screening and planting is really ugly and obtrusive

A more organic, planted screen

Everything else about the visual impact on the area seems to be focused on minimising the visibility of the site, so take this theme even further so the structure disappears

The theme of the discovery centre could be focused on 'not leaving a mark or trace on the world' as an individual - we can all make choices to reduce our impact. By minimising the visibility of this structure, including from satellite views, the development would be making a statement about minimising impact. Are there any other ways to reduce the size of the entire site, especially as it is using green space?

Reducing the size of the site overall. Maximising green space and minimising hard landscaping materials.

Should this facility be built at Honey Hill, (and I don't think it should be), it should be designed to have as little impact as possible and therefore the design should dispense with the rather over-dramatic gateway
In addition to the gateway building and anaerobic digesters we are also exploring additional screening on top of the earthwork bank. Please click your preference.

A planted screen would disappear more easily and blend more readily into the surroundings, imperative if the facility is to be built in this rural space on the green belt.

All of the above would be necessary in an attempt to hide the structure and offset its impact on the environment as much as possible.

Everything should be done to conceal the 26 meter high digester towers. In a flat fenland setting, these 'would change the character of the area and impose an industrial appearance on a Green Belt location'. The stacks must be hidden; ideally they should be sunk.

The digesters need to be completely hidden from all directions in order to minimise the impact on the rural character of the area.

The entire area should be surrounded by trees to minimise the visual impact of the site.
